I had a good day even though I've been sick.

For my birthday I got myself quite a large lot of pony merchandise and a few ponies. Got myself Soul Caliber 5... been playing that when not doing homework. I also picked up the new American McGee's Alice Return to... I don't remember at the moment but it's the sequel to an awesome game. Recently.. though not for my birthday I got myself a Styrofoam mannequin head! So soon I'll be able to take nice shots of all the hats I've been crocheting!

Also I got new glasses! So uploaded is a really silly/geeky photo of me and my new glasses. I came home to my mother had made waffles! So I dug out my gir hoodie ^-^

Kindle Fire Tablet

Finally reached my last Wired.com post for the semester. I got a bit behind on posting but I've been reading wired.com all semester almost daily like I do cracked.com. Also with the end of the semester means I can start reading the actual news again! I usually get too upset for my own good to read the political news so to keep my stress level lowish I don't read the news that often when I'm in the middle of a school semester.

The last wired.com article I chose to blog about, is all about the kindle fire. Which my mother happened to get herself for the holidays and I've been playing with it all day and not getting my 10 page play written. However I did manage to complete the rest of my MAGD blogs and I have my zombie poster planned out in my head I just need to sit down for a 3 hour photoshop session. Now.. just need to come up with a logo for my Graphics class and I'll be set.

Anyways this article on wired.com was all about the kindle fire's flaws as a system. The article was written by someone who has used tablets before, comparing everything to the ipad. The kindle fire does have some lag but not enough for me personally to mind, I grew up with dial up and we had dial up til my first year of high school which was 2004 ish? We live out in the country and there just wasn't internet providers out here at that time. Maybe I'm just too patient, My android phone has about the same amount of lag. I've never played with a eink kindle but I have with a nook and honestly I think I prefer the eink tech to this kind of screen. Reading long periods of time on computer screens hurt my eyes and tend to give me headaches with prolonged exposure which makes my graphic design major a terrible idea. I'm in front of a screen all day most of the time.

The article mentions reading magazines a terrible experience, I haven't looked at many but I did download wired Mag and looked through it on the device, and I don't mind it. I still hate ads to no end it annoys me whether digital magazine ads or youtube ads before a video. They complain about the small space, I like the compactness/paperless format. Wired is somewhat interactive where some articles you can touch different images and more content will pop up. I haven't fully had a chance to test out the effect this tablet will have on my eyes with prolonged reading since I've already been staring at screens most of the day it would be flawed to judge it right now. If you are looking for something that is compact to read full color magazines, books, etc this is a nice cheap device but if you are looking for fast, big screen, less load times look into something more expensive?

Rats Freeing Trapped Friends

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b-jWBoybfkU/TuRMlyW_rGI/AAAAAAAAALI/brulyyO3R7M/s320/IMG_8198.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5684752841705499746" />
Empathy is widespread in the animal world. While I'm not always a fan of animal testing this was an interesting article. I have a pet rat named Dimitri, honestly he could use more socialization since his cage mates passed away. Being as I've become highly allergic to their feces and break out in hives every time I clean his cage or handle him getting him a new cage mate isn't an option.
Rats are rather social creatures so using them as a test group is logical but the outcome predictable. When my oldest Igor got sick the other 3 wouldn't leave him alone since he was already in distress. Since he was sick the empathy of the other 3 was more agitating Igor than helping him. Sometimes they would bring bits of food to him since he was paralyzed on one side, common thing to happen when rats are close to death.

Pictured left to right: Dimitri, Nicolai(deceased), Ivan (deceased) and Igor was hiding in the house also now deceased.

Cloud Connectivity

Cloud Connectivity Hybrid Cars are already in the works. Wired.com had a small article on this new technology. Ford and Google have teamed up to work on a hybrid that can automatically shut off its gas engine in areas of dense urban pollution 'zones'. I personally have a 3DS but I never use the 3D technology as it hurts my eyes too much. I got it due to the price cut, originally I was just going to get a dsi XL to replace a free glitchy dsi a friend had given me but since I can play games in 2D and it was the same price as the dsi XL I got it so that if they come out with a game I do want, I can get it.

Anyways this article talks about 3 DS games that pushed the DS tech to the limit. I'm going to start with Okamiden as that is the only one I've heard of and actually own in my collection. The article mentioned Okami on the wii and later the ps2, I first played Okami on the ps2 and it's what got me into adventure gaming and eventually into rpgs I've mostly been into puzzle games. It was impressive on the dsi but it runs much smoother on the 3ds. If you've played the original it's more of the same with less side stuff to find. It's great to have a portable version of more of the same interesting and visually stimulating story that I can play anywhere to get my Okami fix. You play as Okami-den Ammy's daughter, all the animal gods have children so when you find paint brush strokes you get introduced to a new baby animal(s). I'm finding it to be an interesting sequel, I'm about half way through the game right now. The new enemies are interesting to look at and fun to find their weaknesses.

The other games mentioned, I haven't heard of. Which doesn't surprise me with how busy I've been and how many ds games there are out there.
Solatorobo is an adventure game and the article doesn't give much on what it's about but focuses on the graphics pushing the limit on the DS. I went through a couple other reviews of the game to find the setting is a world of cats and dogs, and this particular action rpg was a Japanese imported over to the US.

The other game Ghost Trick is a puzzle game of sorts that looks like an older bit game. It's almost like taking a spin on Clue but you play the dead person and can manipulate the environment to change things in time. I'm actually rather interested in possibly picking this one up for myself to play.

My Little Pony Halloween

Alright so at least most of my friends know, I'm a my little pony fan/collector. I've been collecting MLP since 2006 when they rebooted the MLP toy line into it's third generation. Wired.com had a small announcement clip about the Halloween episode. Princess Luna has some trouble adjusting to how to communicate with her subjects after being trapped in the moon for a thousand years. It was a fun episode, I find the show entertaining. Some of the new fan base however are rather... eccentric?
If I go on a geek out rant about ponies I'm usually not talking about the new show, I'm usually geeking out over a hard to find 1980's Gen1 pony that I recently got myself. Then getting interrupted by friends to hear them say "I am not a BROny" is kinda lame. I rather don't want to be labeled as some of that particular fan base. There are good parts to the fan base as well the collecting community has been around since the early 90s. Before the mass flood of new pony fans.

Here is the Halloween episode.

I grew up with My Little Pony Tales a 90s show which was a rather hollow. I remember one episode where the girls are giving advice to Bright Eyes that to impress a boy she has to not be herself.
The show was with the gen 1 style ponies but the toy line at that time was gen 2 which are significantly skinnier than any of the other lines.

They oddly didn't advertise them in the US.. they were in production til the 2000s but only in the UK the line stopped in the US in the late 1990s.

The Gen1 ponies and cartoon were alright. The pilot episode was the best with some very 80s evil characters which were most likely deemed too dark and they changed the show to be less.... frighting for children? I really love the pilot episode, bring upon eternal darkness!! The originals are my favorite gen to collect.

If you have stayed with me thus far and glimpsed at episodes you will notice Applejack & Spike were brought back from this show into the g4 series. The g1 show turned into like all other 80s shows... just plugging in the new toys for and advertisement! Not the best writing but that didn't matter as long as it pushed the product.

Out of all the shows the Gen4 is the best written and entertaining. I collect all gens though ;) except the creepy G3.5 but I'm not going to go into about those creepy things.

Why I must learn to Crochet

My friend Chrissy is teaching me to crochet, well I am also attempting to learn offline between knitting projects. I decided to go with the 'Resume' project but I want to design a more personal art portfolio/resume website for myself. I'll just be late on the logo, I want it to be something I'm proud of not last minute thrown together, I want to think about this. My entire web presence is under Jazzlematazzle right now, mostly since Jazz Matazz has been used by others before. Jazz Matazz is/was my roller derby name when I was playing, until mid January I'm still a registered 'independent' skater. Even My Etsy shop is Jazz Matazz Creations. So I'll probably have some sort of Jazz Matazz Creations for a title.

The color palette is from one of my hobbies, which is collecting My Little Pony toys, I have this stack of puzzles that have this wonderful playful colorful color scheme going on that always catches my eye on my bookshelf. Honestly the more I think about this the more likely my color scheme will change. I've always just wanted a personal blog/Resume/Portfolio website all in one. An interactive photo gallery, a section to blog about things, photography, whatever fancies me, a spot for contact/resume, etc. Blogger & Tumblr both have elements I like, I used to use Deviantart for ages but then deleted my account at one point and now I have an account again but I tend to just upload photos on facebook which in all honesty is the worst thing ever. My brother has a nice layout on his website. While he is a good programmer to my knowledge, and a great photographer ;) his sites could use a make over design wise however I enjoy it's simplicity.

Website Palette

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 124px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pTgYbOxWsZQ/TsJ2mRSaxWI/AAAAAAAAAKc/bq4aWqLiySs/s320/palette.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5675228880288007522" />
So for my Multimedia class we will be creating a website. Ravelry, a knitting/crochet site that I'm a member of has quite the collection of free patterns. There are a lot of movie inspired knitting/crochet patterns out there, whole books dedicated to certain genres and movies as well. These patterns have inspired me to want to re-watch several of my favorite movies to hunt for knitted costume pieces to recreate. But first I think I may have to knit myself a Ron Animal Cracker hat. Which the 'need' I have for this hat is puzzling to me as I didn't care for the Harry Potter movies though I will admit they did improve with each film. Though with the books I liked them up to maybe book 4 and then they just went downhill in my opinion, I grew out of it I suppose. I read and own all of them though, I remember I timed my reading speed with the last book I finished it within 12 hours taking out the time it took for food/bathroom/sleep. All 784 pages of it :D

Vinyl Use

I always find interesting vinyl at thrift stores for pocket change. This article I found to be rather interesting alternative for vinyl use/upcycling. I've made vinyl bowls before and that is always fun playing with it right out of the oven, it has such a fun molten feel to it.

Designer Ishac Bertran is cutting old vinyl up and then pasting them together to create new sounding tracks. After experimenting with different cutting techniques lazer cutting proved to be the best way to alter vinyl. Though chaotic some of it is rather interesting. Wired.com has this article on the top 10 Halloween Movies for Children. I've seen most of them and I feel there are other films that would be better.
Here is their list:
1. The Nightmare Before Christmas
2. Daffy Duck's Quackbusters
3. Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
4. The Addams Family
5. Corpse Bride
6. E.T.
7. Cinderella
8. Beetlejuice
9. The Monster Squad
10. Ghostbusters

I feel like there is a multitude of movies missing on this list. I have not seen numbers 2, 3, and 9... I may have to now. I was always fond of the Double Trouble twin movie... as awful their acting is/was but the side characters were so fun! A gravedigger, a hobo, and a dwarf clown! It doesn't even have to be a 'Halloween' movie, just something spooky like We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story. Professor Screweyes always creeped me out to no end. Now I think he's an awesome character ;) Or how about The Brave Little Toaster to scar your children for life? That movie has plenty of scary scenes/characters. Fantasy movies would work for this list too like Willow or The Witches.

Zombies, Run! As you jog/walk/or run while listening through headphones you get an audio story about being in a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies. The more times you go out and run the more things you can unlock in the story line. Similar to other online games to try to drag you in with goals/achievements to unlock. The creators are comparing it to role playing games, creating an alternate sense of reality when playing.

I found this article interesting, I'm not much of a runner myself. I prefer to roller skate due to bad knees. I personally love watching zombie movies and my current house if there were an zombie Apocalypse I'd be set with food and ammo ;) we even have a grass airstrip all I would need is a plane.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jazzlematazzle.blogspot.com/2011/10/zombies-run-makes-your-workout-race-for.html' title='Zombies, Run! Each post of mine is tagged MAGD so my professor can find it easier.

I chose this article cause the first thing that interested me was the fact that it was an NES article. I wasn't allowed video games consoles until high school. My mother had a video game phobia... ooo all games are going to turn me into a serial killer. My first system was a gameboy color, I remember them retiring out the original brick gameboys. Also watching my cousins play their NES system at my grandparents house but I was never allowed more than a glimpse here and there. I now own a retro duo system that you can buy off of thinkgeek.com once they are back in stock.

This particular article is about collectors of NES games and the holy grail of all collections. The Nintendo World Championships Gold cartridges of which only 26 of them exist. I always am interested in learning about older games I haven't heard about. The article goes on a bit about the world championships to find the best players with a rather huge grand prize $10,000 savings bond and a car. This was some families entire summer in 1990 when Nintendo hosted this contest. Wired.com tracked down two participants and interviewed them. Both of them recall their excitement and nervousness about being at the huge convention hall. How they had spent weeks practicing to get to where they were now.
The last bit of the article discussed collecting and how the market has skyrocketed, stuff is getting popular to collect and the value is going up with time. Back when NES was just being retired for the SNES most did not see the original games as something to collect. Mainly his fave genre of B-Horror. Which I like too, cause it's amusing like all the poorly made 80s movies I like. And in light of the holiday season we last night watched Silent Night, Deadly Night. Come to find there were five total movies made which we plan to acquire at some point. I like how easy it is to pick out the storyline right off the bat and the low budget films props etc. In SNDN they had one Santa suit for the whole thing. Teeth, so horrible the trailer made is seem really good but no cheap effects and more bad acting. I hope someone at some point makes a decent horror film on the myth of vagina teeth. Though very amusing to watch and make fun of. Night of the Living Dead was a decent one, Tarman is cute! Another good film is Frankenstein must be Destroyed. That was a great two dollar find thrifting. :P I get all my movies thrifting and so does Spatula since we both don't have a lot of cash. I picked up one of my favorite movies I've been dying to get; Mirrormask the other day. Then today I found 12 Angry Men, one of my favorite plays.

A List of Derby Sites

Copied over from my myspace blog:

Derby & Skate Shops- for Derby merch, skate gear, and clothing ;)
www.brokencherry.com
www.fastgirlskates.com
www.deviantderby.com
www.rollerderbydepot.com
www.derbyordie.com
www.blackeyedsusanskateshop.com
www.derbyskinz.com
www.flyinsquirrel.com
www.rollergirlskates.com
www.rinkrashskatewear.com
www.derbylove.net
www.sockdreams.com
http://www.lowpriceskates.com/ Where I got my skates from :D
www.atomwheels.com
www.sincityskates.com

Magazines
www.fiveonfivemag.com
www.bloodandthundermag.com
www.fracturemag.com

Documentary/ Movies/TV /Books
www.hellonwheelsthemovie.com
http://www.aetv.com/rollergirls/
www.amazon.com Just search for roller derby!

December is here

December is finally here, I'm excited. I'm ready to go home but I have to keep to my promise of spending the night and part of tomorrow. I'm looking forward to Saturday, I'm taking my boyfriend and a few friends out to sushi at Hatchi Hatchi in Rockford. I'm not feeling the greatest, I picked up a cold that involves a lot of coughing. As long as it doesn't hinder me eating I'll be fine ;) have to be able to eat my sushi. The first time I had sushi I was just getting over the stomach flu, the first day I was able to get up and eat small amounts. *shudders* trying new food when you've been sick is not fun.

Hope you've had a great thanksgiving everyone!

Cedar Rapids

I suppose I need to get on top of updating. Some of the divas went to see the bout in Cedar Rapids, instead of hitching a ride I drove myself to visit family and my ex-roommate "big brother" Q. Best choice I've made in awhile, if Q gets the same job in the summer I'll take another road trip to Iowa but all the way to Des Moines/Marshalltown area and Cedar Rapids is a nice halfway point. The picture is my cousins Chad and Alexis. Had a nice conversation with them at Perkins, then we went our separate ways. Q and I went roller skating at the rink in town. I was disappointed with the price. 9 bucks for 2 hours 12 for 4. The rink was about the size of Watertown but a floor like the Beloit rink. So my skates with the sticky wheels on the inside were great. I got to fully try them out, honestly I don't think I've ever gone as fast as I did. Still can't keep up with Q, but I can now if I'm on the inside. Maybe, if I had been fully hydrated and had something to eat before hand.

Hot Chocolate

I've finally reached the time of the year where I get up early for tea or hot chocolate. I'm after my ex-roommate's recipe, he makes hot chocolate from scratch. This year has been odd they had xmas out before Halloween. I don't remember that from last year but then last year I was in the process of moving/partying. I myself have a fondness for parody Christmas music. Especially the Cryptkeeper's Christmas album. This year one guy mentioned Bob Rivers to me, so I have expanded my collection which I'm rather excited about. *runs off singing* Santa's coming and he's going to kick your ass... :D the Arrogant Worms started it all for me.

Stats

So I just discovered Google Trends so I of course looked up roller derby and this is the stats that came up. :P I love stats so much fun

I hate being sick

Well I've been sick since yesterday. I'm a ton better today but not quite well enough to go anywhere. I should be well enough to get myself to class tomorrow so that's a good thing. I hate having to miss derby practice twice in a row, I have been exercising at home (Tuesday, when I wasn't sick). Ever play DDR in derby down? try it sometime. I got a really high fever from the infection in my new piercings. So I've decided I'm not getting anymore piercings once these heal up, I don't need to get this sick over it again. My fave cafe, did some studying watched part of P.S. I Love You. Chatted with this cool guy Jim for a bit. Then I headed over to Jenny's house to play games, which was a ton of fun. On my way home, I stopped by the Garage to see my friend Callie. Who then introduced me to the new roommates and her boyfriend Eric. Now Eric has his piercing license, and I felt comfortable around him from the start. So they then talked me into getting my ears pierced which I'll have pictures later. Quite honestly I don't think I'd ever go through getting them done if they hadn't set me down right there and got them done. So a big thanks to Eric, who has been piercing just about anyone willing who walks through the door at the Garage for a few bucks or a pack of cigarettes. Take a photo a day for a year, not sure I can complete that. I think I may try it, for fun. I've been reading a book about teaching blind students to take photos. It's a very interesting read, hope that if I ever loose my eyesight I'll still be able to take photos.
I may not make practice on Tuesday, I have a three page paper to write on Apes that is if I can find an article to write a three page paper on. So far I've only found page articles, how am I supposed to write a three page paper on a one page paper? I love to argue so I'm rather picky on what I write on hence why I haven't found an article yet. I also miss having a SIRS account, a great site for articles but the college doesn't have an account. I've been digging around my old high school papers in hopes that I find the log in name and password. The HS never EVER changes them. I'm questioning on if I should drop Anthropology or not, I'm not that passionate about the class. I'm rather disappointed with my classes this semester so I've been slacking.
In other news, my derby named got approved! I'm officially Jazz Matazz now.

Movies

I haven't had the internet for the past few days, been busy too. Went up to Stoughton to visit some friends up there. They dragged me to every antique shop and garage sale in the area. Added about ten movies to my collection. I found myself a copy of The Shadow Box, a play which I built set on last fall. So I finally get to see the movie version of the play. My friends were kind enough to give me a copy of Hellboy as well, they had gotten themselves the directors cut so I now have their two disc "special edition" for myself. And on it is the cartoon The Tell-Tale Heart, one of my favorite cartoons that I haven't seen in years.

If you like dark stuff like I do check out FeMaledictions the shop is in Stoughton, if you are ever up there you should check it out.

Goodwill

:P found myself a few 8tracks today for my player, along with an awesome book series. So I took a skate practice off to catch up on much needed sleep, and food. I haven't really been eating proper lately which also adds to being tired. I did get my exercise in too, played some DDR cause I got myself a tv (black one) finally so yay for movies and games. Since derby started I've added in yoga at home, squats, lunging I just save for the rink but I know in the long run if I practice doing that enough one knee falls will be easier. My senior year Anatomy class, my lab partners and myself had our own little "The Breakfast Club" thing going on. A jock, a band geek, a cheerleader, and me the oddball/artist. So the picture today is of Brad. I call it "Mommy I'm This Big"

I also decided what I'm dressing up as for Halloween. After Nic's suggestion that I look into the comic Tank Girl. I watched the movie Tank Girl, so therefore I'm going to be Tank Girl for Halloween. Just so you know, I'm not doing the whole rocket boobs thing. I'm sticking to the plain outfit; t-shirt, shorts, knee high socks, derby/punk outfit.

Threadless

Didn't go skating, but I do have skating on the brain. I did crack open my math textbook so far... will get to it promise! I've been doing some browsing for skate related clothing and found that a particular shirt (Meat Is Murder) on threadless is on sale right now. Great for the older skaters, not "Fresh Meat" like myself. It's a shame the Piece of Meat shirt is retired, I'd love for them to reprint it so I can buy it.

Study? I've been up most of the day, picked up my neighbor from work this morning at 2:30AM. I cleaned and unpacked some more yesterday, found my camera's battery charger and got around to taking some pictures. Then I dug out my drawing tablet, lets just say unpacking and cleaning ended with that. If I make good progress in the next three hours I may drive up to Watertown to skate. I love the wood rink there, I'm really fond of it compared to the rink in Beloit. Which joining derby in the long run I'm saving money than if I drove to Watertown every weekend. And the team trains so I'm getting in shape this way too.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jazzlematazzle.blogspot.com/2008/09/study-thats-not-in-my-vocabulary.html' title='Study? Over the years I've attempted keeping a blog and always end up not continuing with it. Most often I don't like the layout of the site and soon abandon updating. So here I am, trying out Blogger, the longest I've ever kept a blog lasted me about six months and that was at livejournal. Feel free to look there at some of my photography. I will start off with stuff I've posted there before till I get around to taking some new photos. I use deviantart as my upload site, so any photos I've uploaded can be found there. My goal is to try to last a year with an everyday post and photo... tried and failed many times already.

I'm also hopeful that getting back to a post a day will help me move on. I haven't touched my camera or drawing pad since I moved from a place called "The Garage". A party house that started off tons of fun and a home to a place where I was not treated well. Since leaving, I've found myself having to start over yet again at trying to make new friends while attempting to hang onto a few hard to find old friends and keeping on top of homework. Starting September 1st I moved into my own apartment, which I've yet to finish fully being moved. I need to move a couch, table, and bookshelf in yet before I can say I'm finished. On top of moving, loss of who I thought were friends, my childhood cat Crystal passed away September 16th after being in my life for 14 long years.
